Dont just fly over the Bungles come with us for an amazing day
to explore the Beehive country of the Gidja and Jaru people, the
custodians of Purnululu National Park with local guides.
Departing Kununurra at 0900am then fly south over Lake Kununurra,
with your local guide over the Packsaddle Irrigation area and the
upper Ord River, on to Lake Argyle. We track over some of our vast
cattle stations and the Osmond ranges, hear the ancient stories
of this country from the custodians of the country. Our descent
and arrival at the Bungle Bungle Ranges showcases the spectacular
dome structures of the eastern escarpment.
On landing at the remote Belburn air field, we are welcomed to country
by the Kingfisher local guide, we board the airconditioned 4WD coach,
there are spectacular photo opportunities en route, and bush tucker
to stop and sample. We head off on an unhurried guided trek to Cathedral
Gorge and The Lookout, arguably one of the best views of the Park.
The walk is an easy one with only a moderate level of fitness and
agility required. We carry a satellite phone, first aid kit, and
water on the hike, all Kingfisher guides are trained in senior first
aid. A gourmet lunch is served in full view of the domes, that
is local produce with some bush tucker elements. At around 2:30pm
we head back to the airfield with time to stop the bus for various
photo opportunities. We arrive at the airstrip for an afternoon
beverage of sparkling cold beer or wine or a cup of tea and a time
for more of a yarn with your local guide as you sit under the gum
trees at the Belburn airstrip.
The return flight to Kununurra show cases Piccaninny Gorge
and the western escarpment, before setting course for the Argyle
Diamond Mine, your local guide will tell of the Jaliwang whose
scale fell at the sacred site that is now Argyle Diamond mine. The
western shoreline of Lake Argyle and the Carr Boyd Ranges lead us
back to Kununurra by flying-over the Lower Ord, Ivanhoe Crossing
and the Northern Irrigation Area. We arrive back in Kununurra at
approximately 16:30, after an extraordinary experience, and you
will fall asleep that night dreaming of the Bungles.
